Area Overview
Comprehensive Study on the Tonto Field (55-pages) Available for Review in 02. Geology in the Confidential Section of the VDR.

The Tonto field was discovered in 1957 and developed with 48-wells. Located about 7-Miles north of Snyder, TX. Geologically, this area is located in the transitional area between the northeastern edge of the Midland Basin and the northwestern portion of the Easter Shelf, with the Matador Arch to the North. The Tonto field is on the eastern edge (basinward side) of the eastern portion of the Horseshoe Atoll Penn Reef complex.

The Canyon Sand is located at a depth of 6,700 ft and averages 25 ft. in net pay thickness. This is a low permeability sandstone reservoir with average porosity and permeability of 14% and 1md, respectively. Interpreted to have been deposited in deep-water turbidity currents in a middle to outer submarine fan depositional environment. Similar depositional environment to the Spraberry/Dean sands of Dawson & Borden Counties. It is an enclosed system that is bound above and below by shale and laterally by impermeable sand & shale.
