The volume of US industrial sand and gravel mining in 2017 increased by 35% YOY to an estimated 105 million tonnes, the highest total since 2014, according to the US Geological Survey. Increased activity in oil and gas led the growth with 63% of US production going to hydraulic fracturing and well packing and cementing.
